Morris Powerlec

In 1994, the company was commissioned to investigate and provide a technically acceptable solution for painters platforms on the Sydney Harbour Bridge, to replace the manually operated platforms that had been in use for almost 70 years. The Roads and Traffic Authority had attempted on a number of occasions to solve this problem, but without success. Powerlec designed, manufactured, installed and maintains the current platforms, which are radio-controlled with a full PLC Control and Diagnostic System. This contract was valued at $1.38 million, and was the catalyst for the formation of Powerlec’s Major Projects Division. Since then, the company has completed a number of bridge-maintenance gantry projects.

In 1997, Powerlec negotiated a $3.5 million contract with Woolworths for the design, manufacture, installation and maintenance of 314 special-purpose Pallet-Assembly Tables to assist efficient and safe palletising of deliveries for individual stores. The success of this project is in large measure due to the innovative and easy-to-use design which was adopted as a result of the unsurpassed technical capability of Powerlec’s concept design.

Morris Powerlec has gained considerable experience in the shipping and port industries. As the Australian contractor for Samsung Heavy Industries, the company has erected and commissioned four ship-to-shore container-handling cranes. Major refurbishments and repairs to container cranes have occurred over the past 10 years and Morris Powerlec is now established as one of the foremost companies in this industry.
